
Dr Dane Cook

Dr Dane Cook is a Gastroenterologist and General Physician who prides himself on a holistic approach to patient care. Dane has interests in high quality diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, gastrointestinal oncology, and other areas of Gastroenterology including Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Hepatology. After achieving dual Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2020, Dane undertook further training in Interventional Endoscopy in 2021 at John Hunter Hospital, with a focus on Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR), luminal stent placement and other specialised procedures. Dane is currently pursuing further training in Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and looks forward to providing this service to the Hunter region in the near future.

Dane is a Staff Specialist at the John Hunter Hospital. He maintains an active role in research and teaching, holding the position of Conjoint Fellow at the University of Newcastle, where he is also a member of the Academy of Clinical Educators. Dane has contributed to a number of important publications including a feature article in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine in 2020.
As a senior Doctor within the hospital, Dane is approachable and compassionate and is well regarded as a supervisor and mentor for the training doctors and medical students.
Dane is a true Novocastrian, having been born and raised in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, and completed his medical training through the University of Newcastle and Hunter New England area. Dane has maintained an active role in the community through various professional and sporting activities, and along with his wife is raising his two kids who enjoy living here just as much as he does.
